Meet our Staff

We are able to serve through those who join with us by investing in our city and pouring out their lives for others.

Rev. chad whaley - DIRECTOR

Chad first became involved with Graffiti while on a mission trip in the mid 90s with Virginia Commonwealth University Baptist Student Union and later served as a Summer Missionary at what is now Graffiti1 in the East Village. He went on to accept God’s call to ministry and graduated from Seminary at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (BTSR) where he met his wife Briana who enrolled a year behind him. Chad served as a Chaplain in the US Navy Reserves, has worked and helped start several non-profit ministries since graduating from Seminary as well as serving as Pastor of a local church in Virginia. Chad has a strong passion for the homeless and other housing issues. He has also been involved in the Real Estate Industry for over 26 years. He hopes to merge his non-profit and business experience to partner with God and the people of Brownsville to find tried and true and innovative ways to tangibly show the Love of Christ. He loves working with people of all ages, especially kids. Chad and Briana and their daughter Ellie most recently moved from the Tampa, Florida area to work at Graffiti3 for the long term. Pray for them as they adjust to the slightly different climate here in NYC.

Chad enjoys fishing and a good movie. He is a big Hockey fan, although not for the NYC teams, he and his daughter are big fans for the Tampa Bay Lightning, GO BOLTS!

Briana is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain, she spent the last 15 years working as a clinical chaplain in both Hospitals ad long term care facilities. She is a graduate of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (BTSR) where she received her MDiv. She also went on to get her Master’s in Patient Counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University where she also completed her 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).

Briana loves sitting with people and hearing their joys and their pains. to sit and listen to people. She finds it to be an honor to be invited into the stories of their lives. She was given a true gift from God as she is able to make people feel comfortable, accepted and free to open up and share their life journey with her. She is known for being able to sit with the grumpiest of persons and getting them to want to open up to her within minutes. She is able to sit with people during times of intense grief and pain; amidst tears and silence. She has a strong passion for Pastoral Care and believes that one of our callings in Brownsville is to help create Safe Spaces; Safe Spaces to talk, Safe Spaces to visit, Safe Spaces to Worship, Safe Spaces to Play (Kids and Adults). She believes everyone needs their story to be witnessed and heard- which is then the key to healing and renewed purpose.

Briana and Chad have a teenage Daughter, Elliana. Briana enjoys writing, running and playing with their two dogs, Bean and Bitsy. Briana is a former elite Marathon runner, having competed in the 1998 Women’s Marathon Olympic Trials. Unfortunately due to injuries her runs are much more limited these days.
